Hello, I just want to tell you that I could not wait until wednesday to pick up the other rat. She is like a biege color and I put her in the same cage Gretchen is in and Gretchen started to bit her a little bit and I was wondering if I should be concerned about it? I hope everything will go okay between the two of them and they get along.How long did you say it will take for them to get used to each other? Joanna, I just thought I would say a few words because I am very worried about my rat Sadi. Sadi is rocking from side to side. Is there a reason for that or is there something wrong with her? Her and Gretchen get along very nicely except that Sadi wont come out by herself unless Gretchen is out but when my husband and I have Gretchen out Sadi is in the little house. Does Sadi think Gretchen is her mom or what? Please let me know. Thanks so much and have a very nice 4th of July.

My rats tend to eat what ever i do although dry food is available I think most foods are ok in moderation and mine love yoguht and do like a drop of beer every now and again. I have 4 Females and one Male (with no nads). Great website keep it up.

I am so glad to see that I am not the only mad one out there! I have been spreading the "love the rat" gospel since I bought my first two girls 3 years ago and have marvelled every day since about the genuine love and pleasure which they give me. I have even taken the girls into the geriatric ward where I work as a nurse and all of my patients love them, one of the patients actually knits me little blankets for them. Sadly my original rats have since died and,like you I was left broken-hearted, but I now have Lucy and Amy who are every bit as loving as my original two babies.I found the page where you remembered your dearly departed very touching as it was nice to see that someone actually feels the same as I do. Keep up the good work - your site is very informative and your pictures are gorgeous, especially your Essex rats.

We have been trying to E-mail you from your link but it isn't working properly. I think your web page is interesting. I have just bought two female rats, Roamy and Rafiki. We are a little worried about them not eating or drinking very much. The water level hasn't changed since this morning. Can you offer us any advice? Also one of the rats stays in its house all the time, when we lift it out it's ok but won't come out on its own like the other one.

I just found your website, I think its great. My daughter and I just recently got our first rat, a wonderful little Dumbo girl, Elsa. I'm not sure what color she would be, she a light tan. Well she is the sweetest little girl, Haley takes her everywhere we go. To the mall, to on walks, she even snuck her into school one day!! We then got another little sweetie, a boy, hairless, Kanook, hes all boy!! He is also very loving. We let them play at this point, together, Haley would like to breed them in the near future. Anyway, your site taught me alot, and of what to expect being a rat mom. I only wish they would live much longer than they do, its only been a short time we've had ours, and I don't even want to think of losing either one of them. Keep up the good work on your site, and good luck with your ratties. Thanx for the info!

I think your website is great,I thoroughly enjoyed reading it all,and was saddened by the 'In loving memory'. I have only had my rats for a year,but they were 6 months old when i bought them so to be honest have never been 'cuddly tame'and are still nervous when i get them out for their evening run. I've just got the internet and this rat site was the first i looked at as i was intrigued by joanna's world! I can say it was well worth 'The click'. I've printed my favourote photo's which i found really cute,i like the way you managed to get one of them all looking out at the camera at the same time,i know rats are very curious but this is definatly a pic to be proud of. Hello, i love rats, but am not allowed one as my mummy says they smell of goat poo, i think they are very nice and i like your website, it is very nice, i am 7 years old and i love my pond with my fish, toads, frogs and pond snails!! My favourite animal is mice because they have nice teeth and big ears, i'm not keen on gerbils though because they have yellow or orange teeth and their breath smells of eggs, i know this because my friend Tabitha owns gerbils! She also has rats, one called Polly and the other called Rattenberg!! I like animals and when i am older i would like to be a farmer and look afterthe pigs and feed them pig food and vegetables!! My teacher says that she doesn't like animals as they smell and make her clothes all hairy and dirty!!!!

Well done on the site. I love the essex rat. My friend bought 2 Mink Essex bucks at a show, and then was given their sister to breed, which gave a litter of beautiful Black Essex, Black Selfs, Blue Essex, Blue and Champagne. I think the headspot totally defines the variety, giving it a little something you don't see that often. An Essex is a rat you always remember after you've seen it!

I am a college student in South Dakota, and I have always had pets at home. After this first semester at college, I have realized just how much I miss having a pet. Since i can't have a cat or a dog, I started researching other pets that might have some of the same affectionate qualities of a larger animal. Your site has helped me to decide that i want a rat. I got in touch with a breeder 45 miles from here, and I am heading there in a week to go pick two babies up since they aren't old enough to be weaned until then. I really enjoyed your website i to had also had gebils and hamsters that were very aggressive. My dad took me to the pet store to get a rabbit or a bird but they didnt carry rabbits and i didnt really like the birds and the man walked up w/ a black rat on his shoulder and i said daddy i want a rat so i got a PEW and named him winston. I use to breed hairless rats. My first and oldest rat Ralph died almost a year ago. Today I purchased a new rat for the first time since he died. He is white with a gray hood and he is dumbo. But my very recent aquired dumbo rat has developed hard lumps inside and around both ears, looking like tumours. I love the do and the don't on owning a rat. I have two rats and they are both doe's and their on the names are Blue and Zoe. I have English Cocker Spaniel and her name is Phantom and my second dog is a Whippet name Chandler. I never thought I would own a rat but my neighbour didn't take good care of them and never had time for them and she has two dogs and a kitten. It is always nice to read information from other Rat owners, I inherited mine from my daughter when she got married. Unfortunatly she will have to be put down soon. She is 3 and I had surgery on her last August to remove a tumor and now she has many more, Vets suspects cancer also and she has developed neurological problems in her legs. She has also been diagnosed with Upper Respitory illness. Poor girl has been a great friend. We will miss her dearly. Thanks for listening. :)

Iv'e kept rats for about four years now and i cant imagine my life without them. sadly 3months ago i lost my oldest and most dearest rat called phoebe. i'd had her for just over 3 years. cant remember when i cried so much. she loved to steal food in mid air. but i still have 3 beautiful girls to keep me on my toes
